This page provides some instructions about how to use the Club radios. Familiarise yourself with these before you go out.
o Collect your radio from the OD in the Start Box.
o MPYC uses channel 17 – do not change this channel on your radio unless instructed by the OD. This channel is also used by other Estuary clubs.
o Listen before you call, someone else may be using the channel.
o Speak clearly. Hold the microphone close to your mouth but at right angles and talk across the face of the microphone. This reduces distortion and wind noise.
o Check that your microphone is switched off after your transmission.
o Think before you speak – be specific, don’t waffle.
o Use the phonetic alphabet if necessary
Basic Procedures
o This is should be used to separate the call sign of the station being used from the call sign of the calling station.
o Roger – message received and understood.
o Say Again – request to repeat all or part of a message.
o Over - transmission has finished, go ahead with your reply.
o Out- conversation has ended and gives a clear indication that the frequency is free for other users.
o Clear – when finished but you will continue to monitor the same frequency.
